I believe that a compassionate approach to the self, experiencing rather than avoiding emotions, being present, exploring deeply held stories about yourself, and taking action toward what actually matters to you are essential aspects of healing. Amid the struggles, tragedies, and difficulties that confront us each individual has the capacity to live a vital and meaningful life deeply connected to personal values. This doesn’t mean immunity from uncomfortable and painful emotions or experiences, but that you will be able to experience these events with adaptability and resiliency while continuing to engage in your life, work or education, relationships, spirituality, and recreation in authentic and connected ways. I work with individuals and families impacted by eating disorders and co-occurring mental health issues.
Because each individual’s story, goals, and context is unique, I use an integrative approach to therapy drawing from different theoretical orientations as are relevant to each person. Although my predominant theoretical orientation is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I integrate aspects Psychodynamic Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). For families of adolescents I also use Family Based Treatment and believe including families is an important aspect of recovery. My approach to therapy is flexible, responsive, and creative based on what you want to change, explore, and heal.
Prior to opening my private practice in Colorado I spent 5 years as a clinician and administrator at The Moore Center for Eating Disorders in Bellevue, WA (Now Eating Recovery Center Washington). I also provide compliance consulting for small behavioral health organizations.
