Are you a caregiver of someone who as struggled with an eating disorder? As someone who deeply understands the process of recovery, you have a unique gift to offer. Become a caregiver mentor and offer hope, understanding, and vital information to others. The Caregiver’s Mentorship Program matches qualified mentors with a caregiver who needs some support in this complex journey of supporting someone struggling with an eating disorder.
Throughout this 10-week program, EDF mentors provide one-on-one support.
Please note that this program has a limited number of available mentors; we cannot guarantee you will be paired in the round you apply. You must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the United States to apply.
Who can be a caregiver mentor?
- A parent, guardian, sibling, spouse, partner, etc. with at least 2 years personal experience being a caregiver or main support system of a loved one with disordered eating or an eating disorder.
- Mentors are encouraged to share their personal stories and impacts of being a caregiver.
- Someone who is aware of their personal experience and seeks support when needed.
- Can dedicate at least 1 hour per week for 8 weeks.
Why be a caregiver mentor?
- Perhaps you remember the first time your loved one told you they we’re struggling. Do you remember who helped you take those first steps? Do you remember wishing you had a more meaningful support system? Imagine being that support for someone else.
- Help a caregiver navigate messages from doctors and therapists.
- Support a caregiver navigate the impact of the eating disorder on the family. There is no replacement to a connection with someone who understands.
- Not to mention research has shown us for many years the benefits of volunteering increasing social and psychological resources.
