The Response Roadmap: 5-Steps to Navigate Tough Conversations with Your Loved One with Calm, Confidence and Connection

Thursday, September 7th at 5 pm MST

With Bryn Miller, LPC, CEDS-S, Certified Advanced Therapist Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)

When your loved one is struggling with an eating disorder, it is only natural to feel lost. And when we are lost, what we need is a map. This interactive workshop will introduce you to The Response Roadmap, a unique 5-Step framework that will give you concrete tools to manage moments of conflict and crisis with more calm and confidence, so you can connect, both to your loved one and who you want to be for them, even in the hardest moments. This work is appropriate for parents and caregivers with loved ones of any age and any eating disorder or mental health diagnosis.

Relevance and social status within our culture continues to be connected with appearance, in a society that, over time, continues to place greater and greater attachment to outward appearance, more than the value of underlying character and contribution to family, community, and society overall. Join Dr. Wendy Oliver-Pyatt, and Rebecca Brumm as we will explore how society’s shifting expectations of women as they age, coupled with its psycho-social pressure to stay “relevant” in all aspects of their lives, can cause women to turn to a variety of anti-aging interventions, including a strict adherence to a relentless diet culture. During the presentation, we will explore the bio-psycho-social manifestations of aging, and examine the cultural context of aging women in U.S. society versus other cultures historically over time.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the stages of menopause and associated medical and psychological implications.
  • Gain knowledge regarding anthropological and cultural views about menopause from various cultures in which menopause and age were treated with honor and respect and in so doing, gain new perspectives on cultural impacts of menopause.
  • Discern potential benefits of bioidentical estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and pregnenolone
  • Review treatment considerations for this patient population

Learning Level: Intermediate
