Advanced Parent & Caregiver Workshop
Aug 23 @ 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Overview

Inspired by Emotion-Focused Family Therapy – and with a dose of humor – this workshop will introduce practical skills to support your child’s recovery from an eating disorder. Parents and caregivers will be taught specific techniques to increase cooperation around meal times as well as to respond to strong emotional reactions, including expressions of anger, hopelessness, even silence. Not sure how to respond to “I won’t eat that” “I don’t want help” & “I feel fat” in a way that is loving and productive? We’ll cover that too. Finally, participants will be supported to identify and work through caregiving and co-parenting challenges most often encountered along the road to recovery. This workshop is best suited to parents, stepparents, grandparents and alternate caregivers of a loved one with an eating disorder, regardless of their age, involvement in treatment or motivation to recover.

Conceiving A Healthy Recovery: Exploring the Connection between Eating Disorders and Shame related to Fertility, Pregnancy, and Postpartum Recovery.

Introducing guest speaker and author of the forthcoming book:

“The Clinical Guide to Fertility, Motherhood and Eating Disorders: From Shame to Self-Acceptance”

Kate Daigle, MA, NCC, LPC

Did you know that 20.7% of patients struggling with infertility have had an eating disorder?

Psychotherapy with this population can reveal shame rooted in unexpected difficulties in conception, pregnancy or early motherhood. The lack of open discussion around these topics increases internalized judgment and self-criticism. This presentation will focus on issues arising from challenges conceiving, sustaining a healthy pregnancy, and mother-child bonding in women who have had or currently have an eating disorder. The discussion will examine research linking the presence of anorexia nervosa, bulimia or binge eating disorder to fertility issues and experiential exercises exploring how to process this with clients will be outlined.  Kate will share some personal experiences from her own life and case studies to highlight the depth of these struggles.  This presentation will be a guide to addressing, working with, and healing from emotional struggles related to fertility and eating disorders both for practitioners who work with these issues regularly and for those who are wanting to learn about this topic.

Stress Relief Workshop
Nov 14 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

About the Workshop

What stresses you out? Where do you hold stress or tension? What do you DO to release?

As we embark upon the holiday season, join us for an interactive workshop that will share practical and physical tools for anyone to use.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine offer us “tools” in which to relieve stress, relax tension, and let the bodies energy flow. When we are “stuck” we have pain, where there is movement there is no pain.

Some of the tools offered in this workshop will include acupressure, home remedies from our ancestors, and just random handy tricks of the trade picked up over 15 years in practice.
