Conceiving A Healthy Recovery: Eating Disorders, Fertility & Pregnancy
Mar 31 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Exploring the Connection between Eating Disorders and Shame related to Fertility, Pregnancy, and Postpartum Recovery.

Join us virtually on Thursday, March 31st from 5-6PM Mountain Time as author of The Clinical Guide to Fertility, Motherhood and Eating Disorders: From Shame to Self-Acceptance, Kate Daigle, MA, NCC, LPC presents a free workshop exploring the development of a healthy relationship between eating disorders, shame related to fertility, pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

Did you know that 20.7% of patients struggling with infertility have had an eating disorder?

Psychotherapy with this population can reveal shame rooted in unexpected difficulties in conception, pregnancy or early motherhood. The lack of open discussion around these topics increases internalized judgment and self-criticism. This presentation will focus on issues arising from challenges conceiving, sustaining a healthy pregnancy, and mother-child bonding in women who have had or currently have an eating disorder. Discussion will examine research linking the presence of anorexia nervosa, bulimia or binge eating disorder to fertility issues and experiential exercises exploring how to process this with clients will be outlined. Kate will share some personal experiences from her own life and case studies to highlight the depth of these struggles. This presentation will be a guide to addressing, working with, and healing from emotional struggles related to fertility and eating disorders both for practitioners who work with these issues regularly and for those who are wanting to learn about this topic.

Celebrating Mom: The Heart of Recovery
May 26 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
In honor of Mother’s Day, join EDF and Equip for a panel discussion featuring three mothers-turned-advocates and their children in recovery.

At the heart of successful eating disorder recovery is a strong support system of loved ones who are there through it all—and that often includes Mom. In honor of Mother’s Day, join EDF and Equip for a panel discussion featuring three mothers-turned-advocates and their children in recovery. We’ll explore how familial relationships evolve through the recovery journey and share practical tips and tools for caregivers.

Moderator: JD Ouellette, Director of Lived Experience, Equip

JD Ouellette is the Director of Lived Experience for Equip; she previously developed and ran Equip’s Mentorship Department. When she helped her youngest daughter recover from anorexia a decade ago, it ignited a passion to offer hope and mentorship to other families in the way other families provided that for hers. In 2019 she left her career in education to work in the eating disorder space and is excited to be part of the work of enhancing FBT to work for even more people, and to provide access to evidence-based care that is not limited by geography.

Dad’s Toolbox for Eating Disorder Recovery
Jun 14 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Join us to learn practical tips and skills for caregivers.

Dads have often been left out of the eating disorder recovery narrative, and Equip’s Director of Mentorship Kevin Dunn hopes to change that by motivating and educating men on becoming more supportive and effective as caregivers. In honor of Fathers Day, join Kevin for a special workshop to learn practical tips and tools for dads (and all caregivers) navigating recovery with their loved one.

Kevin Dunn is a dad who has been the primary caregiver for his daughter since her anorexia nervosa diagnosis five years ago—and her subsequent ARFID dual diagnosis. He maintains the view that eating disorder challenges present extraordinary opportunities for growth and learning. Certainly, they are unwelcome visitors on our family journeys, but, for Kevin, the “disorder” they bring opens broad pathways to “re-ordering” every aspect of family life for the better. His goal is to use his experience guiding his own daughter to support others on their paths.

Kevin is the Director of Family Mentorship at Equip and leader of their Men’s Group, and also co-founded the F.E.A.S.T. Men’s Group, with the goal of activating, educating, and motivating men to be more supportive and effective caregivers.
