Eating Disorders in a Selfie World
Feb 6 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Presented by Dr. Joanna Bronfman, LCSW, Psy.D from Backcountry Wellness

Dr. Joanna Bronfman’s presentation, “Eating Disorders in a Selfie World,” addresses the impact of today’s image-centric culture on the prevalence of eating disorders in adolescents and young adults. As a thought leader in eating disorder treatment, Dr. Bronfman explores how societal pressures and the pervasive influence of social media contribute to body image issues and disordered eating behaviors. Her presentation will:

  • Explore how social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat contribute to body image issues through filters, editing tools, and curated content.
  • Discuss the link between exposure to idealized online images and the internalization of unattainable beauty ideals, leading to self-objectification and disordered eating.
  • Promote healthier self-image practices by encouraging critical engagement with social media and resilience against its negative influences.

Super Bowl Charity Challenge
Feb 9 @ 4:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Hello friends and supporters of great causes!

It is almost Super Bowl time. Time to study up on the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles and help support EDF!

We are excited to introduce you to a fundraising partner, Thropic Games.  Thropic approached EDF with a unique and innovative “tool” to supplement our fundraising efforts –  Charity Challenges.

And while we continue to raise money to help people, we figured we could have some friendly competition around the upcoming Superbowl to help support our goals.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Click on this link now until kickoff to make your picks.
  2. Enter your email address and pick the best answers that you think will happen. Do your research! Then submit your challenge.
  3. This will take you to the donation page. Donation to play is $20.

50% of entry fees go to EDF. 50% goes to the winner of the game!  Simple math proves how powerful this concept is….if 1,000 friends of EDF participate in this pool, EDF will receive $10,000 in passive donations – and one winner goes home with $10,000!

Invite all your friends and family to participate by sharing this email or link to the pool!  The more participants, the more donations to EDF!  So please share with everyone you know who likes to have fun, create social impact with their dollars (it’s only $20!), and have a chance to win some cash.

Thank you all. We hope you find this fun!

About the Presenter

Leah Stiles is a retired Navy Senior Chief with over 20 years of distinguished service in public affairs. She is the founder of SEA WAVES, which stands for Support, Education, Awareness, Wellness, and Validation for Eating Disorders and Self-Care.

SEA WAVES provides free clinical screenings, educational resources, and proactive outreach to service members and their families. With Pentagon approval and inclusion in programs like Military OneSource and the Wounded Warrior Project, SEA WAVES bridges the gap between existing resources and those who need them most. Through initiatives like the MEDAL Training Program and the Lighthouse Project, the organization fosters a culture of resilience, informed leadership, and accessible care.

Leah’s dedication to addressing eating disorders and mental health challenges within the military community is both personal and professional, inspiring waves of change wherever her message reaches.
